Those who work with Nokuthula “Noku” Mantshontsho describe her as a shining example of what it means to be a Senior1Care caregiver. From singing with clients to traveling extra miles for those who request her, Noku puts her heart and soul into everything she does. Although she joined Senior1Care just six months ago, Noku has already made a meaningful impact.

One client in particular left a lasting impression on Noku. The senior had experienced a major loss of mobility and was navigating not only physical challenges but emotional ones, too. “She was feeling disconnected from the world,” Noku recalls. “But as we spent more time together, she began opening up and sharing her life story. It wasn’t just about helping her move—it was about being present, listening, and showing that I cared.”

Over time, their bond grew stronger. “She was hesitant to work with other caregivers, but our trust helped her shift her perspective. I told her, ‘Look for the Noku in everyone,’ and she did.” With renewed confidence and a brighter outlook, the client became more independent and opened her heart to receiving care from others. Her family watched her spark return.

Noku also brings outstanding depth of experience to every client she serves. With over 32 years as a teacher and a background in education and psychology, she’s devoted her life to helping others. Even while teaching, she used school holidays to return to Africa, where she voluntarily cared for elderly women in her community. She even formed a gathering space at her mother’s home, where she supported women with food, hygiene, and companionship—creating a loving space filled with joy and dignity.

I’ve worked with seniors in hospice, with young adults, and with children. In every role, I’ve tried to truly make a difference,” Noku shares. “As a caregiver in the Senior1Care Angola office, I try to bring that same warmth and devotion to every home I visit. My hope is that every client I serve can look back and say, ‘Before I met Noku, things weren’t like this—but since then, my life has changed.”

That connection goes both ways. “I’ve realized this is what I was meant to do,” Noku reflects. “It’s an honor to be a steady presence in someone’s life during their hardest days. Caregiving is about so much more than physical assistance—it’s about being there emotionally, too, and letting them know that they are never alone.”

With her warmth, insight, and deep compassion, Noku is more than a caregiver—she’s a friend, a confidante, and a deeply valued part of her clients’ lives. We’re honored to have Noku on our team. Her story is a powerful reminder of the heart behind caregiving—and the incredible difference one person can make.
